Porsche has unveiled the latest version of its Classic Communication Management Plus (PCCM Plus), a retrofit infotainment system aimed at owners who want modern connectivity in their aging sports cars without spoiling the original cabin aesthetic. The upgrade targets what the automaker calls "future classics" — roughly 300,000 vehicles across the 911, Cayman and Boxster lines built between 2009 and 2016.
The retrofit has long been one of Porsche's more popular aftermarket offerings, and this generation broadens what the hardware can do. Two model-specific units are now sold through Porsche Centres, covering the 987.2, 997.2, 981 and 991.1 chassis codes.
Deeper vehicle integration
Rather than functioning as a bolt-on head unit, the new PCCM Plus ties into the car's electronic architecture. Owners can operate the seven-inch touchscreen directly or, on cars originally fitted with a multifunction steering wheel, control it from the wheel. Personal vehicle preferences carry over, and drivers can pipe navigation prompts or currently playing tracks into the instrument cluster.
A few features borrow directly from Porsche's current model range. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are built in and can pair wirelessly over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (Android Auto requires a compatible phone and a data plan). In markets where it is legal, the system can play YouTube videos while the car is parked. Owners can also match the on-screen image of their car to its actual paint color — a cosmetic touch meant to make the retrofit feel factory-fitted.
Driving-focused extras
The system layers in enthusiast-oriented data and convenience tools. Map-based speed limit information appears on screen, and oil temperature and pressure readings are available on a dedicated trip display. On Boxster and Cayman models, the previously audio-only parking aid gains an on-screen graphic showing distance to obstacles. Navigation supports satellite imagery, and a "Scenic Roads" mode plots winding, view-heavy routes for weekend drives.
On the connectivity side, the unit includes DAB (Europe), HD Radio (North America), plus FM and AM dual tuners, Bluetooth audio streaming with track metadata, hookups for existing sound systems, and internal and external microphones. A nano-SIM slot supports 4G, and map data can be refreshed over the air rather than at a dealership.
Availability
The system ships in two variants: one for 991.1- and 981-generation cars (model years 2012–2016) and another for 997.2- and 987.2-generation cars (2009–2013). Porsche notes that available features vary by model and specification, that some services need an active internet connection, and that professional installation at a Porsche Centre is recommended.
